Itchy, sweaty testicles and scrotum

If your testicles feel itchy, it is probably the scrotum that is itching – the bag of skin that contains the testicles, not the testicles themselves. Or, more often, it is the folds of skin behind the scrotum and in the groin that itch.

Fungal infections

The folds of skin behind the scrotum and in the groin hold sweat and are warm - which is just what fungal infections like. So it is not surprising that fungal infections are common in this area, and they can be very itchy. For more information see our section on jock itch.

Irritating products

Another reason is that these skin folds can hold the remains of soaps and shower gels that you used while bathing. These usually contain perfumes, some of which can irritate the skin especially when it is warm and moist. To avoid this problem, wash with an unperfumed soap and make sure you rinse thoroughly. Always dry yourself carefully in the groin and around the testicles after bathing or showering.

Crab lice

Crab lice can hide in the hairs around the scrotum and cause itching. For more information see our section on crab lice.

Other causes of itching can also be found in our section on itching.

I am suffering from scratching on my scortum from 2 months. whenever I feel swet it starts scratching. my scortum skin gets bulged up due to scratching. Also another problem which I faced from due to fungus on my skin. These are the two skin problems I am facing due to swet.At last I visited to skin specialist for medicine. this are tips which I got from skin specialist and it works :- 1.bath daily and wash your body if it sweats 2.dont use perfumed soap , use only soap which is made for skin infection. (example - P-SCAB) 3.wash your affected area with salt water and keep it for 5 minutes before bathing (IMPORTANT) 4.dont wear underwear stay only in loose cloth trousers 5.dont apply any oil on affected area 6.cut your nails to get less pain when you feel to scratch antibiotics for more cure thank you

It is caused by sweat and loose underwear rubbing which allows the over growth of natural flora into compromised skin. When the barrier is compromised it is a vicious circle. To sort it out wear shorts that have lycra but mostly cotton (to breathe) that don't dig in but give support. Jockey 3D for example. You should change your shorts all day long as needed (almost never in winter often in summer) just rotate with one pair left to dry out. Even tiny amounts of sweat will cause irritation. Change after workouts without fail! Never put fresh underwear on to wet or moist skin. Fresh underwear daily. Then you will want to have good hygiene without soap or alcohol. Try dermol 500 from your GP. No more soap that is so bad for the scrotum. Seems counter productive but trim the pubic hair down and after cleaning and fully air dried put a little Odaban inside the space between your leg and sack every now and again just a dab with cotton wool or a disposable glove and powder that down but not to much you don't want clumping (fragrance free powders only). To learn to use Odaban put it in the crux of you arm to feel what it is like you need almost none of it - a tiny drop. Too much it burns. You must also never apply to the Scrotum. The powder stops it getting on the scrotum. That is the trick stopping sweat leaking from the groin onto the scrotum. Oh and stay away from too much masturbation or long sex sessions breaks down the skin barrier. Will never heal if you do this often. All this men must last forever to please women - well eh no it damages their bits. Your scrotum is now healed. Why all this? Well the Scrotum has evolved to dangle outside our bodies and not be covered and clothing or sweat.

Scrotum started @ 25yo. Now 54. Seen so many dr & tried so many prescriptions & over the counter. The only thing I have found that gives relief is while at home go naked & place bag on balls. Whenever I feel the slightest itch coming I apply ice. Keep nails cut off. Got this from 1 dr. He said it trains the nerves to settle down. Have been able to work w/o wanting to rip my balls completely off. I also apply lotion after using ice. May sound crazy but it works for me.

I don't know why, but it has been 2 months with an itchy scrotum. Been scratching it I know it is not good to do so, but it's all I can do. I use coconut oil, tea tree oil, apple cider, garlic paste, clotromazole etc. Nothing seems to help me. My balls would get so itchy after scratching them my scrotum would have some lumps (after furious scratches). Please help me with this problem. Btw I'm married for 2 yrs now and never slept with anyone else other than my wife.

Doctor has not solved problem. Anti fungal did nothing. Used topical and 3 kinds of pills. Steroid creams no help. Get some relief with zinc oxide. Internet search=a common problem with no solution. Is there any help anywhere? Interrupts sleep. Urologist says he can not treat. GP failed. Dermatologist failed. What is a person to do?

Hi,I am an 18 year old and I've been facing this embarrassing problem for quite some time now.Of late, I've observed that there has been a development of some irregularities(bumps to be exact) in great number on the scrotum and on popping, apparently the same substance in pimples ozzes out. Some, maybe due to the loose skin,do not pop at all no matter how hard I squeeze. The itch is unbearable, and the number of the bumps go on increasing.please help.

WOW! After months of agonizing itching...I finally have relief. I read on another forum that it may be do to a food allergy. I've tried antibiotics, creams, drying my scrotum. NOTHING worked. I started keeping track of what I was eating and within a few days found I was allergic to cashews. I started eating paleo about 9 months ago and have been eating more nuts than usual. I stopped eating all nuts and have complete relief. I'll start adding almonds and pistachios at some point but for now I'm just enjoying the fact that my crotch isn't on fire. For me, nuts were making my nuts itch like hell. If you've tried everything else, keep an eye on what you're eating.

I have a pimple on my scrotum and it won't pop. my scrotum is always itchy especially at night and it terrifies me, its very embarrassing to scratch your balls

What helped me get rid of itch on my crotch is ToppCock Silver. It's a leave-on gel with silver nanoparticles and tea tree oil which are both known for their effective anti bacterial and fungal properties. The product is applied on man parts after bathing and drying. It dries quickly and leaves no sticky or messy residue unlike lotions and powders.

I really felt compelled to place info in this forum because I am currently suffering from this affliction. Right now the symptoms are somewhat being handled but I hope it eventually goes away. I am also under the care of a great Dermatologist. Initially my Primary Physician diagnosed what I had as a fungal infection and subscribed antibiotics. After two rounds of the antibiotics I was still suffering and the symptoms began to get worse. Next I made and an appointment with my Dermatologist and the cause was determined to be Scrotal Dermatitis. Since A had seen this Dermatologist before, he knew I was not a person that reported suffering easily. By the time I got in to see him my suffering was quite extreme. I was showering five times a day for relief and applying an anti-germ solution that was probably making it worse. My Dermatologist subscribed and topical ointment called Novacort Gel (contains steroid) which if I did not have insurance, and he was able order through a Speciality Pharmacy in Texas, would have cost me $1500.00 for a One Ounce tube Wt 29g, as it turned out my insurance covered the whole cost. I used it till my next appointment which was within 30 days. And by the way, I was initially seen and diagnosed by his assistant but the Doctor came in agreed with the Nurse Practitioner’s diagnosis. Next they put me on a non-steroid topical med called Eurax, which with my insurance was $6.00 for 60g. I am still showering and thouroghly cleaning my groin area 2 to 3 times daily before applying the Eurax (shake it well and rub it in till it absorbs into the scrotal tissue). I purchase an ice bag that has a canvass like exterior and keep it between my briefs and scrotum which numbs the area but also numbs the itch quite well. I don’t know what else to say other than I hope this information helps and your insurance circumstances work out as well as mine. I am not cured but I am praying. I swear at times before my itch/pain started being managed I wanted my scrotum cut off.

I have a massive problem to do with itching on my testicles, I need treating urgently or please direct me to a Doctor in Joburg - SA who can help me, Regards

As a truck driver of 22 years, I have incurred this problem numerous times. I have found that the nest thing is to mix a little hand sanitizer with moisturizing lotion and rub it gently over the affected area. The hand sanitizer kills germs while the moisturizing lotion keeps the skin from drying out. It may sting a little and if it does then next time use just a bit less sanitizer
